The winegrowers’ union (SGV) is holding its annual general meeting on Tuesday 2 June at 4.30 p.m. at the Salamandre in Cognac in the presence of Pierre Aguilas, the president of the CNAOC (national confederation of wines and spirits of controlled origin).
Producers found guilty of excessive distilling

About thirty cognac producers in the Saintonge area have been found guilty of distilling too much by the Court of Appeal in Poitiers. They could face customs fines of up to 50,000 euros.
Bnic : reduced budget

The Bnic cognac professional trade organization has set yield at 8.12 hectoliters of pure alcohol per hectare. The Bnic scheduled budget is due to fall by 13% (a drop of 1 million euros).
Growth at Pernod-Ricard

Pernod-Ricard sales rose slightly in April after three months of falls. The group expects to remain stable in 2009 at best.
Armagnac one hundred years old

The members of the armagnac professional trade organization have celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the creation of the appellation. Last year 6.6 million bottles were produced and 3,700 hectares are given over to armagnac. As a result of the crisis, sales have fallen by 25% since the beginning of the year.

Cognac : fewer shipments

Shipments of cognac fell by -12.6% over the year to April 2009. There has been an 8.9% drop in the Far East, -16.6% in North America and -12.2% in Europe. These shipments represent 381,046 hectoliters of pure alcohol.
